The newly growing forest

is a thicket of green

around its mother tree

bright and leafy fresh

 

stark contrast to dry-browned

branches and twigs

the matriarchal canopy

protects them as they grow

 

allows entry to sun’s

energy and light, beams that

shine on living and dead alike

for out of death, new life is born.
